GÁS VERDE

Gás Verde is a biomethane producer, based in Brazil, founded in 2022 co-founded by Maurício Carvalho (Board Member) and Marcel Jorand (CEO). It is the largest producer of biomethane, in Latin America, with 12 biogas and biomethane plants (operating in six Brazilian states).

Gás Verde emerged from the growing need to manage urban waste responsibly and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The core idea was to capture biogas from landfills and convert it into biomethane, a renewable fuel that can replace fossil fuels in industrial processes and transportation.

In 2024, in partnership with L’Oréal Groupe in Brazil, Gás Verde built the world’s first dedicated biomethane refuelling station dedicated to the cosmetics sector, supplying 100% of L’Oréal Groupe’s inbound logistics fleet operating between the factory and the distribution centre.

Gás Verde is now developing new fuelling stations along Brazil’s main logistics routes, scaling supply. This expansion is set to help L’Oréal Group Brazil move toward its goal: by 2030, 60% of all items sold will be transported by trucks powered by biomethane, with all deliveries to the South and Southeast regions using renewable fuel.

By replacing fossil fuels with biomethane, Gás Verde helps companies significantly reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

With L’Oréal Group Brazil alone, the partnership is already avoiding thousands of tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year, and this number is set to grow as more trucks switch to biomethane. Two new stations, each with a 10,000 m³/day capacity of biomethane, will supply L’Oréal’s fleet as well as other companies, creating a green logistics network in Southeast Brazil

Maurício Carvalho and Marcel Jorand, Co-Founders of Gás Verde said, “Being a part of the L’AcceleratOR programme will enable Gás Verde to expand and grow our network of biomethane refuelling stations which will push us closer to decarbonizing logistics operations. We firmly believe in Brazil’s biomethane potential and Gás Verde’s role in the country’s energy transition. Having L’Oréal as a partner, advancing alongside us on this journey, reinforces our conviction that we’re on the right path.”
